JK did you see this excellent programme on BBC4 last night? I remember the time (mainly in the 80s) when the UK music scene was really starting to open up to sounds and songs from other countries. Sadly it didn't happen in the end and Paris remains the European capital for all this 'world music'.
Good, simple and brought cultures together. Having said that it's very western with a standard major 3 chord (I, IV, V) progression.
Norman's take on it was perfect as the original was way to drab. The line, "Everybody needs a bosom for a pillow" (if a little rushed) is a hook in itself.

Chris Evans just played this magnificent Cornershop/ FatBoy Slim mix and I remembered how excited I became when I heard it and put it on the Front Page of The Tipsheet back in the 90s. I thought this was the dawn of great cross pollination in culture and music; hasn't really happened apart from Slumdog Millionaire and other one-offs.
