Taking it back to the original thread. That Run track does have a genius chorus..i messaged those guys citizen jaro on myspace, they sound like they'v got it going on in the studio with more tracks photoshoots etc so watch their space!! ill certainly tip them
zooloo Thank you very much for the well considered replies. I've moved my ramblings to the new thread this one has spawned

You've made more differece than you could know.

Cheers.
Martin I am doing ok, as I allways have done, and only ok, my own personal works this year have created more fuss than I would have expected.
But one cute comment that I will leave you with, is last week I had a plumber round, and he said "Oh I see you`re a musician!"
I followed this up with "for my sins I am", and asked him what sort of music he was into.
He said.." you would not understand, I am 44 years old".
I shall leave you with that very strange agesism thought to draw your own conclusions, about the longest "up and coming" career known to mankind:whistle:
The gigs still come in and the downloads dribble through, and I think it is like that for a lot of people my age.
Clare101 Hi Zooloo, i think there is definitely a broad spectrum between the dole and the stardom scenario, i think thats a misconception of the business, many arists on small indie labels can quite happily make a living putting out an album of their niche sound every 3 years or so and selling 20K units ish and make a good living, the low overheads from the label meaning they will make more than the Cash chucking majors, or alternatively putting their music out themselves, one of the benifits of the digital era, especially as ideas like Snocap are evolving where artists can seel their own music for whatever price online.

In terms of age, as Martin said you do have to look at the whole package, which is the songs, the voice, the look, how it will be marketed, who is your market. But overall i believe if you have great songs, you will have a longer career. For me its all about songs. In terms of over 24, i dont think that an issue? James Blunt...what is he really? 30 -31?...Richard Archer from Hard-fi, he is late 20's if not thirties.
You can make money doing covers, but if you write music, i guess this is just a money maker and not going to fulfil you creatively. I think there is more opportunity than people realise, its about great songs and perserverance....in my humble opinion obviously
zooloo Very good point about viewing the whole, quite often over-looked I think. Music is about more than songs.

On the older issue, is it still "If you're over 24 forget it"?

If there were a group at average age of say 40, they had great songs, image, performance and all that. Would anyone in the business give them serious condieration?

Secondly, the music business seems to be all or nothing is there a way or are there any who earn a living playing original material.

I know that some people do rather well out of playing covers at weddings and that sort of thing. And I think there may be something on the Jazz/Blues and Country circuits - not certain about that though.

I'm think of original in term outside of niche genre

Is there anything/anyone between the dole and stardom?
