NCS ... dull, uninspired, cautious, lacking talent, imagination, ruled by self protection…

Sounds like you're talking about the artists
JK2006 Yes - 4.6 million viewers? In my era - 12 million viewers.
JK2006 Yes I suggested this when Pointless started… "here's your question - first texted correct answer wins £500 - who won Best Male in 1973…" type thing - but the BPI now has cloves of garlic hung around its neck against all JK correspondence.

I don't blame the BPI or the Chief Execs - like most of the public, they are all wankers; dull, uninspired, cautious, lacking talent, imagination, ruled by self protection…

They always were. That's why they gave me The Brits in 1990 - terrified in being connected to a fiasco. Not because they thought I'd do any good… self protection.
Mike Willis It is obvious Jonathan and it is quite sad that people involves with this are believes it is good entertaining TV. (Re:- your letter to BRITS, having the Pointless guys do something would be very interesting).

Why can't they ask for your opinion/expertise on the BRITS? If they are worried about your conviction, they could keep your involvement anonymous. Whatever the reason, they are cutting their nose off to spite their face.

The whole point of the awards is designed to help the music industry, yet it hasn't for years and the fact two million less people watched this years BRITS, indicates to me that something needs to be done.
JK2006 Spot on as usual GG - except I don't think The Brits should only concentrate on British music - their awards and exposure should be for GOOD music, even if it comes from Iceland (it has, a couple of times)!

As Producer I even looked at performing abilities - if someone wasn't good live, I wouldn't let them perform their huge hit but used a bit of the video. Remember No Limits? We often had music on by DEAD artistes (again, to the fury and hatred of major labels)… setting the track to Jenny and Tony fooling about or whatever.

My music choice was only ruled by one thing - was the music good? Other producers use the old "can we do it visually?" reason to book artistes.

First - is it good music? If so, how can we make it entertaining visually, even for the majority who will hate that kind of music. If I can get them to stay tuned because they are laughing or crying or hypnotised visually, they may decide they love the music they thought they hated, and go and buy it.

Am I mad? I seem to be so out of step with the majority in so many ways and always have been. Yet this kind of thinking is so obvious to me.
