Did Loop di Love come out before he started getting into proper literature?

Oh yes I'm a massive Morrissey fan (he told me one of the first singles he bought was my Loop di Love).
The Boy With The Thorn In His Side is my personal favourite.

But seriously, if it's lyricists you're discussing, then the name Morrissey should definitely crop up! His songs are poetic, thoughtful, poignant, despairing, depressing, surreal, hilarious, topical....
Tell me who in the pop world has ever written a song from the perspective of a disabled person being treated patronisingly one minute, and then totally ignored the next as a dating prospect (November Spawned a Monster)?Or about rent boys talking palare? Busy west end hairdressers, ouija boards, shyness, being unemployed and then hating having a job even more! You can listen to those songs on different levels, whether you wasn't to laugh, or feel depressed or anxious about how the world works. Maybe being from an Irish background has helped forge his interest and playfulness with words?

Correct DJ and he also wrote one of the finest lyrics ever in You're The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me. And let's not forget Gladys - up there with Aretha and Dusty for me as the greatest female soul singer.
