I think you will find your points 2,3 and 4, KZ, are starting to happen already.
I am less interested personally in the video idea but then I have allways preferred my sound without vision. |

My prediction for 2007.
1. The Youtube model (user generated videos) will be modified and i predict it will be more entertaining with a section on new releases, whats hot in music and other 'editorial' pages. Fronted by a major TV personality. This savvy site would get deals with all the labels and unsigned acts.
2. There will be a collective body for unsigned or independent artists without a label who will work for their interests, provide advice, link them with producers, consultants, distributors and a&r. This is going to be the biggest growth industry and will make a lot of money for all. It will provide artists with one important thing (advice and support) whilst giving them total independence. This collective will challenge the majors and AIM and have a big impact on the industry as a whole. It would be founded by Tipsheet visitors.
3. Word of mouth marketing will become the norm. This would be the system that would be used to promote real hits worldwide. Unlike previous WOM campaigns, gimmicks
will be thing of the past, the music will speak louder
than everything else.
4. Music industry professionals will become proactive. Sharing ideas and implementing things but most of all rewarding each contributor. |

Talking of the final bit that makes an act realise how important it is after the initial hype/release, an interesting ploy of mine appears to have worked with one of our acts.
Against my "wishes", on the initial limited release, I let them pick their own "B" side, which I don`t like at all, and neither did a reviewer.
It`s been the biggest kick to their ego`s yet and has caused great determination in the camp to get it right.
Basically, if I don`t like the tune, they don`t waste time in the studio recording it now, and they agree.
Everybody has to sing from the same hymn sheet or there is no way forward for an act.
I have learnt this year that the manager really IS the extra member of the band and this I hope will work for many acts with the same determined crews, pushing in the same direction in the new year. |

Martin that is the biggest problem I find. Kids simply do not understand the work involved. I need to see more of the seething out of their skin to be succesful, like Madonna in 1979.
Wishing a big year to everyone on here.
