yeah, an upcoming single that I'm involved in is going to be download & vinyl only.
I think the collectors amongst us still really like a physical product and vinyl fits the bill nicely. |

This Year, for singles:
7" Vinyl: 2%
12" Vinyl: 2%
CD: 12%
Downloads: 84%
So, CDs are outselling Vinyl by a factor of 3 to 1 (And that's 7" and 12" combined). |

In terms of sales, last week's chart had two singles that sold just under 2000 each on vinyl, Red Hot Chili Peppers & Towers Of London both on 7'. The biggest selling 12' was Mason which sold 500 out of a weekly sales total of 12,500 interestingly dance tracks like Cascada on AATW aren't on 12" vinyl. |

Vinyl is ok for promo and sending it to DJs. the problem is rather you wont make a profit, if you don |

It took me some time to stop missing the 12" by 12" artwork when CDs took over
It may become increasingly useful/popular for an act to have materials that you can't download and print for free - in some ways using music to sell other thing has been creping in and taking over for some years - the single with a cutout sort of thing.
I wonder if 12" versions of CD artwork would be a seller? It would be quite weird if the album "cover" sold separately and even made a comeback. |
