Ah, but if he looked like that at 42 - what do you think he would look like at 72 Michael?
Unless you were expecting some kind of miraculous rehabilitation?

With all the above comments it is worth viewing the above video.
I have seen it before, and recalled it as a lot worse than it actually is.
The cabaret out of breath pauses were obviously due to ill health and sadly inpired a million bad Elvi to sing like that.
This time on watching it, it does say "goodbye", with some poignance.

As he deid young his image is frozen in time (either a young Elvis or a fat bloated one) ... but had he lived he would now be 72 years old (possibly incontinent, and using a zimmer frame?)
I think the fans would prefer the bloated image !!!
Elvis was not a healthy man at the end. The age issue is, however, entirely another kettle of fish. Johnny Cash died an old but respected performer. Rufus Thomas practically died on stage. Look at Mick Jagger, and the whipper-snappers such as Aerosmith coming up behind him. Johnny Hallyday in France is still packing them in. There are also numerous former glamour gals from the forties and fifties still alive in Hollywood, Elizabeth Taylor being one.
But then, of course, there is always Liza Minelli. Um, er, uh.

Indeed.
Don`t start me on them, you will get a written thesis!
