Hmm...interesting. I've often toyed with the idea of "branding" songs sung by Kari differently as i unconsciously write differently for her. It might make everything sound more coherent... |

It is surprising Caragan gave this a mauling, why?
The songs... Go progress doesn't belong with the other two songs. I feel it is the weakest of the three you suggested.
The other two are better than the average and I feel could do well with the right exposure.
Listening to Zeros and Ones, another good track. Well put together and interesting too.
Everything is Beautiful stands up well.
Go Progress seems to be the odd one out, it doesn't really belong with the others and I feel that gives an impression of a lack of focus, which isn't entirely fair.
If tracks like Go Progress and Waiting in the sea were divided form the others I think they would all benefit. Lumping them together is detrimental to both.
If the songs were split into their two "styles" I feel it would be a more coherent offering. |

Wow...thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. Your feedback was far more constructive than the feedback i paid |

Hi Jez;
First of all, I must say the material occupies an odd middle territory, which can be concieved as a good thing or a bad thing, dependent on whether we are looking at it as a project or a commercial expectation.
I took time out, to listen to your suggested tracks and made these notes.
Go Progress.
A very clever lyric and I particularly liked the "1.8 billion colours can`t be wrong ", line, which struck me as bolt of lightening jumping out of a rather laid back track.
I expected the harmonies to come in sooner, i.e, the first chorus I felt needed them.
Very well recorded and the subtlety is great.
Smokerings.
This starts with a great groove, but the vocal sound surprised me, great sound, but maybe not the correct one for this song.
Heroes.
This one has a good daytime radio styling sound, although, once again, referring back to the first review of the ear catching line, there was just a piece of the jigsaw missing to really make it a cracker, very good though it is, in fact they all are.
What I would say, is it a little unclear how you envisage your audience as this is not clearly illustrated in the influences in the songs, which , much as I hate to put music in a "catalogue", I am a little unclear as to where you are headed and others may be as well.
All brilliantly performed and written, I hope this constructive critque helps.
Best wishes. |
