Al The Strawbs performing Part of the Union in 1973 can be seen on Youtube.

The Cat I remember The Strawbs on TOTP when the Union song first charted, and the drummer playing the base drum with a fish (probably a fake one, but you never know).

Excellent stuff.
Mart Indeed, I had to google the comment!

I have since heard a few Strawbs tracks (I knew "Union anyway", very much like one of fave acts "The Men They Couldn`t Hang", in attitude and sound.

Where the Strawbs got it so right with "Union", was you could never make out whether they were supporting unions, mocking them or reporting the whole thing as a sarcastic sketch.
A brilliantly simple song.
JK2006 Didn't know Dave Cousins Mart? Shame on you; you missed a great compliment!
Lay Down is his best.

As for the rampaging mob, I know the exact answer and may get into it one day over on Your Views!
Mart I must confess to googling the Strawbs the other week, as cross reference to the singer, whose name I did not know. Great song.
Ian Hunter? What can one say? Completely evergreen and a legend. Tracey Hunter is also excellent.

Angry mobs with flaming torches Cat?
The union of which part sings, may well have kept them out!
