You wouldn't expect me to be agreeing with you on this one, ITK, would you?
If you attempt to take it seriously, then it would be quite appropriate to arrive at your conclusions, but Eurovision has nonetheless been a big part of my life since I watched my first one in 1969 at the age of five. It is a big fun extravaganza, kitsch certainly, but some of the songs are genuinely good if you take the time to listen to them. It is very rare these days for any of the songs to become hits in the UK and I really don't think that matters. The contest stands alone as a piece of entertainment that hundreds of millions enjoy on some level or other.
As for the UK entry, I largely agree with you although some effort has been put into the production and we will not be the laughing stock we were last year. I still predict a very low placing as the song is unmemorable and not of the right format for the contest. Andy Abraham has acquitted himself very well out here and I wish him luck. |
In The Know |
Described as a "feast of naffness" on Breakfast TV this morning, I won't be watching this marathon (but may switch on at the end to see the ridiculous voting).
Andy (imo) has the worst song EVER and will consolidate Britain's recent position (last or next-last?). As for the others haven't heard any I don't think (and doubt that I ever will - even if they win).
I haven't the faintest idea who won last year (and doubt the public have either).
IMO Eurovision is the fastest way to oblivion.
Years ago it could be a good career launcher, but not any more. |
