I was reading JK's thread about Abba and it got me reminiscing about the late 70's. Has there ever been a better time for singles? Genres such as punk, disco and rock were all melding into so many great 7 inch singles I really think it was the peak of the top 40 (now sadly deceased imho)

Seriously that is one amazing list! (apart from Figaro!) Most of the songs have been covered and a fair few of them have been back to number one again whether in a cover - eg Steps/Boyzone or heavily sampled like when the Sugababes used Are Friends Electric for Freak like Me. Thinks are worse now there's no doubt about it. Songs - that's the problem!
