Hey Mart,
As for writing on the Uke... I have been writing and playing guitar for years. I bought a few uke song books ( Flea Market Music, a great resorce and message board ) and learned a bunch of Beatle tunes. McCartney was big on the music of the 30's & Tin Pan Alley tunes. You can hear the influence in such great tunes as "Your Mother Should Know", "Honey Pie". The Uke is a natural for Beatles, George was a huge Uke fan, and of course many Tin Pan Alley tunes were composed on the uke and was a featured instrument. Long story short... buy some books, learn a bunch of songs, memorize the inversions and chord structures and incorporate it in your own music. I write on the Uke a lot but will occassionaly write on the guitar and transpose it to the uke. A chord dictionary is a absolut must. Thanks for your interest. I hope I was of some help. Check out Flea Market

I`m intrigued as to how you write on the Uke Ronnie, we bought one last week and in the end gave up on it and did the session with a capo on a nylon strung guitar! It gave us the effect and we understood the tuning better! |

Hey Jonathan,
Thanks for your reply.
As for " Parks " not " Hearts ", on that point, my apologies. I down loaded the lyrics... so much for accuracy on the net.
I'm back in the studio to fix up a few things.. I'll send along an arrangement, or put it on my site for your perusal. You can check out some of my other material. I am often told I sound dated, 60's British: Beatles, Hemits, Pacemakers..... so shoot me. The irony is of course, the style is all over the tube these days.
It's cool to sound 60's, you just can't be 60, heaven forbid. I am 59, by the way, and yes indeed, " Good News Week " is as pertinate today, if not more so.
Good luck Jonathan and never lose site of that keen sense of humor and insight.
Thanks Again

Hi Ronnie - it's PARKS, not HEARTS, by the way.
Yes, the song is published by Marquis Music (before I started Jonjo, which most of the rest is) and is freely available for covers. All our companies are linked including Bocu (Abba).
I must admit, the "hands full of money, all in debt" line has made me smile over recent weeks.
It's Good News Week is even more topical today too...
and as for the recent stuff... Vile Pervert, Shipman, Wilde, Professional Victims... I think I'm still writing pertinent words. |

Jonathan,
I Hope this finds you doing well.
My name is Ronnie Hock, I am a writer and performer.
I have been a fan for years, I love your music.
I am seeking permission to record and perform your beautiful song, " Everyone's Gone to the Moon "
I have an arrangement that I believe you will enjoy.
I tried, unsuccessfully, to find your publisher, which brings me here to your site.
I once read, that you jokingly said that the lyrics to " Everyone's Gone to the Moon " was a parody on the flowery psychedelic lyrics of the time. Most notably,
" Lucy in the Sky " You went on to say that one could write anything, people will attach their own meaning. I also find this to be true. However the lyrics in " Moon "
I think are profoundly of our times. A bankrupt culture: " Streets full of people, all alone... " I recently observed several people waiting at a bus stop, no human
interaction, they were all preoccupied with their cell phones, Blackberries... " Eyes full of sorrow, never wet, hands full of money, all in debt " to me, this line, the
meaning is obvious.
" Church full of sing, out of tune " My God what can one say on this point. " Hearts full of motors, painted green, mouth full of chocolate-covered cream, arms
that can only lift a spoon "
We, as a culture, have become an uncaring, spoiled selfish, glutinous, media driven sensationalist that need to be constantly
fed at the detriment of all others. I recently heard Johnny Depp referred to America as a spoiled child. Unfortunately, this not only indicative of America.
Sorry to go on and on here, I love people and life. I am not a cynic and believe in the species. I just believe we need to look at the current human condition and make
some adjustments before it's too late.
Please advise me on the particulars for performance rights.
Wishing you the best always,
Sincerely,
Ronnie
