Although I tire of these discussions, which have been running for over ten years, the pioneering Gerd Leonherd (Google or Yahoo him) has posted a slideshow he uses to promote what he calls a "web-native music industry". As usual, you get nowhere on the conference circuit without inventing a snazzy new incomprehensible title. But as this is Leonherd, I gave it a twirl. Central to his policy is that music is already everywhere, DRM and control is dead and so why fight the tide? He opts for a "digital music flat rate" (he omits to put the word "fee" at the end so as not to raise the shackles of the online masses). It's not new as an idea, but you can see where he's going when he asks, "Why isn't Google licensed for music"?
