I think most industry people would agree on the Tipsheet pushing Orson forward. It's just a pity that it cannot be recognised.
Orson are featured in this month's Q magazine and yet not a mention of JK's involvement!!
I think it's time for the press to start giving credit where credit's due......
There, is that more respectful for you JK? |

It's Brett Meisner whose tip from months earlier alerted me to check them out and yes, they have fallen out with him.
But did he start that ball rolling? If so, why weren't they picked up after his many tips (credit where due, he went on about them for ages and nobody paid attention) on the Velvet Rope, a very well read US music site.
Was it the ROTD pick that started the ball rolling?
Might have been but their music editor saw the tip on this board and went to their Myspace site because we pointed people at it.
He could have picked up on it months earlier from Brett's Rope posts - but, like the rest of the industry, he didn't.
He went straight to it after WE picked it though.
As did many other music executives.
We get over 10,000 people a day reading our tips, comments, gossip and messages.
So I think we can correctly claim - WE got the ball rolling. |
but they have fallen out with... |
Brett Meiser haven't they? |

It`s also worth noting, that Orson stuck to the material they believed in. Many acts would have reshaped and re-modelled and lost the plot in frustration, thereby creating a whole catalogue of fillers. |

It's easy enough to keep the ball rolling but sometimes wise to ask whoever started the process.
You could say "the people who wrote it and played it started it" and you would be right... unless the songs spent 8 years unsigned, unloved, unrecognised.
In which case you have to ask... what started the attention?
And then regard that person as crucial to the future. |
