Yes, some of those elderly bands in Brazil and other South American countries - and the Caribbean, have a similar lazy, relaxed feel... likewise the Cajun bands in Louisiana |

On a sidenote, it's interesting that there are so many "heritage" bands in Africa. Orchestra Baobab has been going since the seventies. I can think of others such as Zaiko Langa Langa, Bambeya Jazz and the Rail Band that have been going for yonks despite regular line-up changes. There's a recognition that the sum is greater than the parts. The comparison is with the Rolling Stones or Funkadelic, I suppose.
When you give Baobab a little time, it really is a beautiful musical experience. They create a gentle groove that does not need to rush to the chorus. Neat harmonies and interplay with the lead singer. Shame I don't understand a word, though. |
