The Fat Controller
Indeed Elliot. Jeff Lynne even played a trump card by reforming ELO with different people in 2001, promoting a tour and releasing an album, as well as still threatening to sue his former band members if they used the ELO name.Kelly Groucutt and Bev Bevan reformed without Lynne but I think Lynne tried to sue them when they used the name ELO Part II. Groucutt and Co then changed the name of their band to The Orchestra.
ooer.. you could make a brummy soap opera with that lot.
But bless Kelly...a nice man.

No chance. He and Groucutt parted on very bad terms which Kelly regretted since he sued Lynne when he decided to disband ELO. Bev Bevan took the initiative and formed ELO Part 2 much to Lynne's displeasure and so that was the end of the long friendship between Lynne and Bevan. Worse still, Roy Wood has openly attacked Bevan for touring with a new version of The Move and stated that Lynne was "forced" into reforming ELO in 2001 because of Bevan's actions. So, too much bad blood I'm afraid.
It is also fair to say that Kelly Groucutt was a major part of the classic ELO sound. Listen to their work before and after he joined and you can definitely hear a difference which emphasises the input Groucutt made.

This is very sad news indeed. Kelly was such a genial being and a vastly underrated musician.

'Above The Clouds' he'll be now.
Farewell Kelly

He's flown away in the big ELO spaceship into the sky...hopefully a blue sky!
