I prefer her voice to Elaine's. It has a more mellow quality and, to me, sounds less trained and more natural.
I first heard Susan Boyle from another room and went through to the TV to see who it was. Her rather unpolished image does help to make her seem even more impressive, but I was first drawn to the sound, not the visuals.
It's all a matter personal of taste, I guess.
I doubt that she'll become a top act, but she could certainly make a living with that voice, which seems to be her desire.

The ultimate proof that TV and visuals can persuade people of something - which I realised after Gina G failed to win Eurovision (and discussed at length with Simon Cowell).
She's not as good as Elaine Paige and Elaine sells no records. Like Paul Potts, the visuals will get massive coverage and sell for the first few months; then - zip.
Listen without the visual contrast and she has an average voice. Amateur operatics; Camberley Gilbert & Sullivan standard.
Simon has built his career on this (Robson and Jerome? Teletubbies?).
We're talking visual, not music here.
And how on earth can executives in our industry not understand that?

Since her audition on BGT, she's had over 8 million views on Youtube, and last night was featured on CNN. Demi Moore has added her praise for the 48 yr old vocalist.
She'll hardly make the Pop charts, but she could certainly be a hit in a West End Musical.
