DJones He learned a lot from Leiber & Stoller.
JK2006 I just heard Unchained Melody on the radio and instantly found and replayed the fantastic Ebb Tide; neither of these really feature the "wall of sound" yet both have Bobby Hatfield singing his heart out like an angel, something he never did before or since.

To get that performance on record is pure genius in itself.

That's a prime example of how great a producer Spector was.
