I have to say that unlike virtually everyone else, I rather like this year's contest. Admittedly, a smash hit is most unlikely to emerge, but there is a nice eclectic mix of tuneful, if occasionally arcane ditties. |

thinking about it, not that i doubt what you say, if you can't make money out of a tv show with an audience reputed to be over 100 million then you never will make money out of a tv show |

The "countries can't afford to stage it" argument is rubbish, Tom, put about by the meejah as it's a "good story" but totally false. When we won in 1997 and I saw the potential of staging it in 1998 which we did in Birmingham, I offered to buy the rights to put it on. The BBC said "no way"! It makes a fortune for both the broadcaster and the country staging it - tourism, hotels, restaurants... and you think tickets are free? No - it is a cash cow. |
