Bernie seems to be very well thought. He also produced the Radio 1 Top 20/Top 40 Sunday show 1976-1984, which covers the exceptionally well-thought-of Tom Browne-Simon Bates-Tony Blackburn-Tomy Vance eras. He is also famous for recording many of his (and others) productions that would have been otherwise wiped and lost forever by the BBC - for instance, most of the "Beatles Live at the BBC" double cd set was originally junked, but survived via Bernie's own copies - ditto the Jimi Hendrix Experience sessions. He still has a lot lot more in the possession of his estate as the BBC were unwilling to pay a decent price for most of it as "they already owned it" (DOH!)
Similar to how a load of BBC music footage - Jimi Hendrix on the "Happening for Lulu", 3 'Colour Me Pop's, Leonard Cohen & The Kinks on the Julie Felix show and a handful of TOTP's etc - survive solely due to being copied and squirelled away by a music-loving BBC employee called Bob Pratt. |

Interesting - and I hope Bernie is logged on in heaven - there have been more views to this thread - 859 - than to any other over the past four days.
Yet no other posts. |

A very dear old friend (he brought me The Sun Has Got His Hat On) and the man who championed and produced John Peel.
I had lunch with him a few years ago and we spoke often on the phone but he had been pretty unwell.
The best BBC Producer in the early days of Radio One. And a delightful man. |
