And where are the new "great" DJs? The existing ones are either "personalities" (Moyles, Evans, Wogan) or robots.
Those who adore music have gone missing.
And I know why - when I did a pilot tape for Virgin Radio when it started (they wanted me as their breakfast DJ) they were horrified by the amount of music I jammed into the hour (we hardly ever stopped with news, traffic, weather etc taking place over intros, fades or solos) and said "it will cost us a fortune".
Music radio owners can't understand that the best stations simply play great music. |

Isn't it strange how all the really great DJ's are dead now: Fluff, Kenny Everett, John Peel... even Tommy Vance
Fluff has (and quite rightly so) attracted an ever-growing cult following, I know myself quite a few people who avidly collect recordings of his shows. Certainly with Pick of the Pops he made the Top 20 seem like it was the most important thing on earth, pioneered the use of classic music within a heavy rock format and never ever took himself too seriously |

Yes. The old body changed amazingly over the years. I remember seeing him, from a distance, outside that little sandwich shop just up the road from Egton House and was startled at how he'd morphed into that strange bulbous shape. But my goodness he had a great voice, and it's incredible now to think what he managed to play on that show of his. |

In the section about adverts on BBC News, dear old Fluff when about 30 doing his OMO ads for TV - made me feel all nostalgic and fond of the dear thing. Miss his wonderful voice and sweet character. |
