On the "TOTP 1976" documentary we heard Stan Appell & Robin Nash state, quite catergorically, that the show could only feature tracks in top 30 that weren't going down. And yet a cursory glance at what the show did have on then reveals otherwise, and even tracks featured TWICE that never did break the Top 40! Which of course means this wasn't the case! (I won't mention the naughty word beginning with "p" and aending with "a"!)
Can JK or anyone recall what was the real policy on TOTP at the time?

The guys behind Fox were Kenny Young ( who wrote "Under The Boardwalk") and Herbie Armstrong. The singer called Noosha was an Aussie called Susan Traynor. They had three hits in all as Fox before Noosha went solo with a near hit called "Georgina Bailey".They were later to have hits with an act called Yellow Dog. Herbie Armstrong now runs The Fountain Inn in Rowlands Castle near Portsmouth, a live music venue that also boasts a Thai restaurant.

The highlight for me last night was 10CC performing I'm Mandy Fly Me. The only song in the whole show that seemed to stand the test of time. The Bay City Rollers were dreadful - obviously in the death-throws of their career. Anyone else cringe when Pan's People danced with books in their hands to Paperback Writer? (That dance craze never caught on?). Also, I never remembered that ocasionally Pan's People danced to two numbers in the same show. Interesting more than captivating!

I gather that the BBC is currently restoring some other TOTP footage recovered from David Hamilton and other collectors. Among the material is a Piglets 'Johnny Reggae' promo from 1971. Another Hamilton recording that was shown at a convention last year is the TOTP dated 22.01.76, so maybe that will be included in this run on TV.

The "regular slot" starts tonight at 7.30 when Noel Edmonds will take us through the likes of Hot Chocolate, Paul Nicholas, 10cc, Frankie Valli, Pan's People dancing to The Beatles & that strange Bay City Rollers promo when Alan Longmuir was replaced by Ian Mitchell
