dixie Apologies to you Pedant 99. My last message was created whilst time wasn't in great supply. The Davies spelling was sloppy as I know very well Clive is a Davis. The Joe one, I'm sorry to say I didn't know how he spelt his name and didn't look it up. I'll spend more attention to detail next time Pedant 99. Oh, by the way, my name is dixie, not Dixie.
Pedant 99 Clive Davies? Joe McCeldrey? Dixie, you are truly the man with your finger on the pulse.
dixie There was nothing of notable exception with Matt Cardle. Leaving it until Christmas to release an album is a mistake. The exposure was last year. Unless you've got exceptional talent like Leona, (and interest outside the UK from the likes of Clive Davies, so it's worth the wait), then you need to get an album out as quickly as possible, compromising the quality to a certain extent if need be. The "proof of the pudding" came with Hear ‘Say. They got their first album out a few weeks after winning Popstars, and it sold bucket loads. Their second album, which was released for the Christmas market the same year did virtually nothing! Make hay whilst the sun shines. I'll be surprised if Matt Cardle's album does any better than Joe McCeldrey's did last Christmas. And it will be "bye bye Matt" in April 2012.

I wanted Matt Cardie to win this year, because he impressed me over the others at some point (probably) and therefore I (probably) wanted to be proved right. I have no intention of buying his music and cringe a bit when I hear him on the radio.

Funny situation TBH.
JK2006 I think he was and probably still is which brings us to the next point - should we be blaming managers or A&R? Or both? Or is reality TV simply not the way to find genuine talent? It just gives you quick copyists.

Like democracy - which we now know doesn't work - neither does talent picking work when you leave it to the public. Trained, experienced, intelligent experts are what's needed - not punters.
