And a damn fine presenter he was too!
Happy days - I was so young in 1987. |

I actually enjoyed last year's show, and thought it was the best in years. (As I posted on this very board 12 months ago!). Adele being a highlight then too! In fact, I was surprised the viewing figures were so low. It's a much bigger show than the Dominion and Hammersmith Odeon shows, and has all the makings of being as good as ever next week. As far as who will be going. The top execs have changed - but I'll be there, as I was back in the Grosvenor House and Albert Hall shows! (My first Brits was the last one staged at the Grosvenor House, presented by some young handsome ex-pop star. I wonder what happened to him?) |

As I just answered a long E Mail from Simon Fuller I remembered the days when the top executives of our industry were important people.
I wonder what next week's shower of spineless, pallid, transparent ghosts in the assembled audience will look like.
Am I going? No way.
Will the show be any good?
It should be - after Adele dominated The Grammys. British music ought to be ruling the world.
But I suspect the boring BPI will manage to suffocate talent and deliver a bland, dull show that looks superficially spectacular but misses the point entirely.
Oh for the days when I produced it and included unsigned acts like Carter USM and moments like Maggie Thatcher crooning How Much Is That Doggy In The Window? |
