I liked the fact that she knew she'd be mocked but dared to be honest (most politicians try to be down-wit-da-kidz and choose trendy bands). I liked the fact that she was happy to mention older music. I liked the fact that, as a result, we could use short clips of music most viewers would never hear or see. And I liked all 4 of her choices (Memory; We'll Gather Lilacs; Telstar and Doggy) - each a gem of their respective eras.
Most of all I liked the fact that she showed genuine pleasure for those tracks. That's what I wanted The Brits to reflect.
Imagine Cameron this year... Adele... One Direction... Coldplay... fuck off and die.

I think you're wrong Angel. Cheers in the 80's turned to boos and then became nostalgic in the 90s. These days? After Meryl, who knows?
