Michael I have different figures for eDonkey 2000 and Gnutella:

1 Jamie Foxx "Unpredictable"
2 Ne Yo "so Sick"
3 Sean Paul "temperature"
4 Pussycat Dolls "Beep"
5 Pink "stupid Girls"

JK2006 but I must point out that popularity does not necessarily mean ownership.
People can adore a TV theme tune without having to own it.
When my Entertainment USA series was getting 9 million viewers a week, everyone knew the catchy, slapping OUCH theme but it didn't actually sell.
Sales, p2p, legal downloads... are NOT (as always assumed) a true guide to POPULARITY.
DJones To monitor the (illegal) downloads on p2p-networks is a very good method to measure the (true) popularity of songs.
