Abu Ghraib - near Baghdad, Iraq 11 Years, 11 Months ago
In the last 24 hours, about 500 inmates have escaped from this infamous prison.

Most were convicted senior members of al-Qaeda and had received death sentences.

These escapes have negated years of progress in the war against terror - and could well come back to haunt us.

As these men will - very soon - recommece their terrorist activities, woldwide.

Torturing the 'enemy', treating people barbarically, only leads to revenge further down the road. It's a blatantly obvious causal chain, but in this world of short term thinking people are ignorantly provoking anger which will explode in years/decades to come.

Well said, david.

Its the same with torture. There are some (the gullible ones who believe anything they are told !) who say if it produces results then we should turn a blind eye - but apart from reducing us to the same level as the enemy (or below) there is absolutely NO evidence that torture produces results !

People having their eyes gauged out, or their testacles electrocuted, tend to say whatever their torturers want to hear, whether it is true or not !!!!

Or this world of USA elections where the right lobbyists, combined with tactical voting means foreign people's lives come second to 'win at all costs' politicians.

9/11 was wrong,as was the politics that created the very conditions for revenge in the first place.
Well said David.

Ignoring the typos (as I do), I largely accept what you're saying.

But would simply make the point that - without torture - Osama bin Laden would still be alive.

The movie Zero Dark Thirty (really a documentary) gave a graphic depiction of the torture techniques which led - with a large amount of luck and advanced satellite/surveilance capabilities - to his capture and elimination.

Was this torture acceptable for the greater good? Did it stop more 9/11's?

I, like many, simply do not know.

Palestinians have been tortured ever since they were 'ethnically cleansed' from their lands.
In my view it just creates more hatred, more martyrs.I've lived in Muslim lands,Guantanamo etc make things worse, not better. If American money sponsors state terrorism then they are creating their own problems.Obama saw this, but failed to put into practice his own thoughts, too scared of the Jewish lobby.

The Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv on Wednesday reported that Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu told an audience at Bar Ilan university that the September 11, 2001 terror attacks had been beneficial for Israel.

"We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the American struggle in Iraq," Ma'ariv quoted the former prime minister as saying. He reportedly added that these events "swung American public opinion in our favor."
