Behind the Candelabra - seen it at last... 11 Years, 11 Months ago
I didn't like it at all.

I realised after it started I could never stand Liberace; dreadful music, awful camp over-the-top presentation.

The film is two hours of a five minute story stretched beyond belief.

Douglas and Damon are caricatures with no depth at all. On and on it goes. Queen falls in love with boy, drops him, dies of Aids. End of story.

I actually stopped watching quite soon and started wondering why people thought the performances were good. Unsubtle, obvious, arch.

I think my friend Michael Summerton would have hated it. Wonder what Ray Arnett thinks.

I really liked this film, granted there isn't much of a story, but the two main actors (Matt Damon and Michael Douglas) provide career best performances. Damon is 41, playing 18 and carries it off.

There are many funny scenes like the surgeon played by Rob Lowe.

It got rave reviews from the critics, but didn't even get a cinema release in the USA, because it was deemed as being too gay in the homophobic USA.

saw it for the second time last night at the cinema with a friend. It's much better on the big screen.

Still think it's wonderful although there isn't much of a story..after all Liberace didn't really do that much and mostly spent his life in Las Vegas.

It's really from Scott Thorsen's viewpoint and he didn't paint himself as a hero

piece on youtube about his house:
