Many of us believed Maggie's council house/flat sell-off was a disastrous policy for many reasons : one being that it was an attempt at 'social engineering'.

Naturally council homes in desirable areas like Chelsea , Westminster would be snapped up and not replaced and less desirable areas would become ghettos giving rise to the very problems poor old ITK complains of today.

##it's been happening in New York City with ghastly mayors like Guliani but still around half of New York's apartments are rent controlled or government housing meaning the city retains it's great mix of people from all economic classes.

This government has made society more equal than any before.

The ONLY criteria is - can you afford it? (as opposed to "want it and let someone else pay for it").

Equality never was about one person sponging off another.

I get fed up of people quoting 'divide and rule'.......it is usually used as the argument by people who oppose the existing 'status quo', nearly always the default critism of Government....so what are a Government supposed to do? Make everyone equal if they like it or not, apply the same rules to everyone where the rules won't always fit, always include everyone in every decision the 'elected Government' wants to do (by the way, thats Government by referendum) .................So whats the alternative 'include evryone and conquer ?' Not going to happen, can't happen.........so the sound bite will go on for ever, and ever, and ever..........
