Why pay for TV license 11 Years, 11 Months ago
I was at who hold the rights to broadcast live sport on TV it's surprising how very little is shown on BBC the way they advertised you think they show lots.

Contract for Wimbledon expires next year and heavily rumored BT, Sky and ITV want to bid for it, if BBC lose it I would not mind as it won't mess up schedules, snooker on BBC is getting worse they tell viewers to switch over to red button but when it's Wimbledon they let the game continue.

Rugby games are always blurry on BBC Sky is crystal clear, Football Focus and Final Score is embarrassing with it's lame pundits, Gobby sorry Gabby Logan is boring and the voice that grates young ears, Soccer Saturday cannot be beat excellent pundits hilarious mishaps and insults left right and centre.

BBC got rid of all cricket to Sky which is bad as many kids know do not know how to play the game nor do you see kids play it anymore. ITV4 have excellent coverage on IPL T20 and hope to keep the contract going and also have plans for BPL in the near future which is on Channel 9 currently but not everyone has Freesat.

Now there is hardly any sport on BBC MOTD is ok but doesn't always do justice time streamline some pundits, what do we pay for apart from biased news, endless repeats which cost nothing to endless and why have news on BBC1 when they have a news channel ?

They already trained their news staff for when the Queen dies as they thought it was embrassing to see Peter Sissons in a grey suit and tie he still looked smart and professional, I didn't wear black suit or tie when my mum died.

If BBC did a encryption service when it's PPV how many members of the public will subscribe, who would watch it ?

I rather BBC adverts than pay for the drivel they show.

The bbc can't justify paying massive amounts for sports coverage as it comes out of the public purse. I think their coverage of Wimbledon is brilliant (John Inverdale aside) and hope that they don't lose it.

I think that the licence fee is pretty good value for money when compared to how much people pay for Sky. 6 tv channels (7 if you include Alba), bbc iplayer, the most visited website in Europe and much more. Also not all the licence fee goes to the BBC, some of it goes to other terrestrial channels.

How much goes to other terrestrial channels remember they sell advertising space where BBC don't think people should have a choice to pay for BBC or sell advertising space. Think about how much license fee is use to fund their annual office party, expenses and garbage they show.

The Licence Fee should be abolished. Why should you be forced to pay for something, even if you don't watch or listen to it? I never listen to BBC Radio. There is to much talking, not enough music. BBC TV (like all other channels) is too scared to show anything these days. When will BBC2 stop showind "Dad's Army" over & over & over again? It never had many viewers first time around & was never that funny. Amazingly (at the tail end of these shows) they tell you that you can buy all the episodes on DVD...Why on earth would you want to do that? They show the damn thing every year! Then Gold TV on Sky (or "Only Fools & Horses TV", as it should be renamed)...I paid a licence to watch it in 1981, why should I be expected to pay £26 a month to Sky to watch it again & again & again & then again they tell us, we can buy these shows on DVD!

BBC Sport can't even get the names of Chester FC & FC Halifax correct. Then BBC1 waste a big percentage of money on some ailing 28 year old Soap, that once employed a murderer. No I should not be paying a licence to the BBC. I only watch BBC4 about once a week & that isn't that good either.

The Licence Fee is used for other Terrestrial Channels??? Don't think so. It's for all BBC Channels (TV & Radio). No other broadcasters get anything from the TV Licence.

Agree BH there many timeless sitcoms that will never be repeated who remembers The Other One with Richard Briers and Micheal Gambon ? Dads Army and OFAH are on Youtube and easy to download with torrents.

Eastenders is slumping very quickly but they still hype it up same old recycled story lines and shouting should of been axed 12 years ago Brookie was and The Bill was axed as rating plummeted and the networks thought why bother spending money on dead ducks.

BBC radio is a joke they seem to splash out more on Asian radio stations than others and radio commentary is boring Talksport is the king for live sport. When Final Score make a little mistake they think it's hilarious when Soccer Saturday make a mistake it is hilarious.

BBC don't want to bid for any live sport unless it's posh Wimbledon or boat race which Eurosport do better with. I say I watch about 3 hours of BBC a week which is not much and why should I spend a fortune for a few hours week ? Channel 5 is improving they showing some good US shows. ITV4 is improving their sports and we need some more FTA cricket on TV.

Did the Tories say whey would abolish it if they came to power ?

With one in ten of ALL UK court cases taken up with prosecution for non payment we really do need to seek an alternative.

www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/b...-UK-court-cases.html

I am very concerned that some of their major productions would suffer if left to the whims of the moronic population

Considering most BBC shows are now made by Independant Production companies are don't actually see why this TV Tax still exists anyway.

Even Radio 2, use "Unique Productions" for Radio programmes i.e. "Sounds Of The 60s" & the ghastly hauled together "Pick Of The Pops". Why? You only need a presenter & producer & you've got a show.

BBC Radio going to Independant Production companies like "Unique" that mainly consist of ex Capital Radio Producers! The BBC pay to purchase a show from them & the production company rent space at the BBC to do the show. So, it's cheap all round. Not to mention some awful producers along the way.

I don't see why a TV Licence is being paid, when all programmes could be made that way. All other stuff should be funded by advertising. TV Tax has to end & that should also include the greedy Sky. But the main point the BBC isn't run like it was in say, 1980.

Why pay for crap on BBC Fawlty Towers seen them all same with OFAH and we still get repeats. I heard there in average of 100 repeats on terrestrial TV a day. BBC radio is bad and why the fuck BBC Parliament and World Service is funded by tax payers rest of BBC comes from the license fee ?

How many more times is Morecambe & Wise going on be shown every X-mas saw it 3 times don't want to see it again ?

Remember when BBC wouldn't renew the rights for MOTD to ITV so they could show Parkinson they lost millions of viewers my dad had a very good opportunity running him over ?

We have BBC news channel why shows news on BBC 1 and rolling news at night and in the morning ?

I should have thought the fact people like the Mail and Murdoch want the BBC shut down would be enough to warrant us happily doubling the licence fee, myself.

Sky show just about all sport, I think. Do you get that?
Otherwise you might as well save the money by ditching the television and watching repeats online.
I am the opposite. I would rather they showed no sport at all, but as long as they show a bit of something for everyone that's fair enough.

I think you are right. I have an American spellchecker on this laptop that is very annoying. Once the dreaded red line showed, I completely forgot how I had been spelling it for fifty-three years and made mine the same as Andrew's. I bet he has the same spell-checker.

£30 for Sky Sports and BT have the best sport, as I'm with dreaded Talk Talk they will give me a further discount if I renew my contract. Does anyone remember the weird events on Eurosport in the 90's ?

Why pay for TV license?

Because it's nice to have 4 channels without adverts every 7 minutes?
