The long arm of the law police state

The police will be asked to justify the detention of a journalist's partner under terror laws, the chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee has said.

Keith Vaz said the full facts of David Miranda's nine-hour detention at Heathrow must be established quickly.

Mr Miranda's partner is the Guardian's Glenn Greenwald, who has written about US whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Brazil has said the detention of Brazilian national Mr Miranda caused "grave concern" and was "unjustified".

Mr Miranda was held at Heathrow on his way from Berlin to Rio de Janeiro. He reportedly had his mobile phone, laptop, DVDs and other items seized before he was released.

The US government has said it was not involved in the decision to detain the partner of a journalist who published information from US whistleblower Edward Snowden.

A White House spokesman said the decision to detain Mr Miranda "was not made at the request or with the involvement of the US government".

But he said British officials did give them a "heads up" about the detention.

The US government has said British officials gave it a "heads up" about Mr Miranda's detention but said the decision to seize him was a British one taken "independent of our direction".

so, they feel they can (sometimes) "direct" us, do they ?

Good to see the Court ignore the usual ramblings of the "security services" (ie those who want to rob us of ALL our rights and watch us 24 hours a day) - and limit set limits (pending full Judicial review)
