This is OUTRAGEOUS! None of these people have proved neither in a criminal court nor in a civil court that any of their accusations are true.
Under what authority can the BBC make these payments using taxpayers' money?
This will encourage many people to make false, unproveable accusations against anyone who is dead.

This is now the "norm" ...

You don't need a conviction / or any evidence - just an allegation

See - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-23768362

The world has gone potty.

No more License Fee from me then. I'm not funding the Liar's Lottery, nor an organisation that will not defend itself.

If true and accurate (which I doubt - link please) it is possibly a criminal act - giving unproven liars money encourages crime.

I'm beginning to appreciate why the Yanks are keen to keep the right to bear arms.

possibly but you know that compensation cases can often be settled before they travel through the court system and be settled with claims never questioned.

I've sued a huge media company twice now in the last 15 years and both cases have been settled before even one court appearance much to my relief (in my favour).

But this matter is unique...it's basically the BBC being bullied into settlement (if it's true) by a vast number of claimants who will never get their accusations tested and the media, the police, politicians have aided and abetted this complete perversion of the law.

The ramifications will be profound...I should think the legal fraternity are concerned. Lawmakers, ghastly idiotic politicians have caved into mob mentality and have allowed proper process to be hijacked by the lynch mob.

yes and a precedent will be set if the claim about the BBC is true.

Anyone, absolutely anyone (who by co-incidence happens to also be wealthy) can now have claims made against them after death and a settlement will be offered.

Anyone with any wealth or even the smallest family house owned outright should take heed. Your family may get nothing.

There is also now an added factor : family disputes often arise over an estate. One can now claim they were assaulted by their father or mother (the estate pays the legal fees) and demand a much larger slice.

I refer again to the NSW law that has just been passed ( which my politico pals tell me is a direct result of the financial attacks upon the Catholic Church)..a ten year time limit on compo claims.

In the example I quoted (above) -

"From the victims' perspective it's recognition that they were harmed while they were pupils at the school, and that for them is the most important factor," Mr Collins said.

"We finally got a measure of justice for them."

==

Yes, COMPO - which is all that they were after !

It would be surprisingly good if the "victims of MWT" actually turned down the compensation. It might make them more believeable...

We are obviously not in Kansas any more.

It is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!
I had hoped they might question how a hundred and twenty children escaped from their chaperones to be attacked "in plain sight" before chucking our cash at every passing loony that demands a cut?

Yep. Someone "Tweet" to MWT & ask him where the guardians & parents of all these teenagers were, when they roamed freely around BBC premises & mention that it's unlikely that one person alone, would go to someone's dressing room, when they would of been in groups & how on earth would they know their way around a BBC place, when they'd never been there before? Plus ask a cub scout, how his trip round BBC TV Centre, brought back bad memories, when "Jim'll Fix It" wasn't even made there?

These questions, I'd like to hear answers to.

I was told I could "buy off" my false accusers at £5000 each. I refused. The BBC considers it a decent compromise to pay compensation to people who may or may not be lying. I think it's a disgrace.

Can't we all accuse each other, pool the compo and share it out equally between us all?

Much like what happened in the old East Germany with the Stasi informants. Everyone was informing on everyone else.

Gosh I didn't know about that. Isn't it blackmail? Was the "offer" before it was all over the papers?

That's disgusting pay off false victim.

Well £142 per year to pay for TV licence when it goes to pay off Savile victims and Fat Cats, it's ridiculous what tax payers are going through.

www.scotsman.com/news/politics/top-stori...n-luxuries-1-3061324

This sounds ok to me but internet is essential for my job search I have got my broadband to absolute minimum. I don't smoke or drink and buy unbranded grocery's and clothes, I get mine on ebay got 7 minor defected cricket shirts for £6, the defects are hardly noticeable only a woman could find them.

It was not an official "offer", Honey, merely a nod nod wink wink say no more hint from "those who knew"... and it came just before my trial.
