Rolf Harris charged with 13 sex offences including indecent assault

Rolf Harris has been charged with 13 sex offences as part of Operation Yewtree.

The Crown Prosecution Service authorised police to charge the entertainer with nine counts of indecent assault and four counts of making indecent images of a child.

Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London Alison Saunders said: "We have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Mr Harris to be charged with nine counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images of a child.

"The alleged indecent assaults date from 1980 to 1986 and relate to two complainants aged 14 and 15 at the time of the alleged offending."

Harris is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday, September 23.

Full details of the charges are as follows:
Six offences of indecent assault relating to a girl aged between 15 and 16 from 1980 to 1981.
Three offences of indecent assault relating to a girl aged 14, in 1986.
Four offences of making indecent images of a child between March and July 2012.

Reminds me of Pakistan where the penalty for making a representation of the prophet is death. God help anybody who is innocently drawing a picture of a medieval trader.

Guess it'll take ages & much Crown Court Jury time. Cor, I'd love to be on one of those juries. Just think the amount of time off work, would be fantastic. How do 12 members of the general public decide on any of these cases? 6 of one & half a dozen of another, couldn't possibly agree.

It may have a very funny result. RolF & DLT both end up inside, but that "dangerous" public nuiscance, Gary Glitter goes free...What a kick in the goolies for those "news" papers, indeed!

How do the police examine computers for "images"? Is there someone independent watching them?

In this case, it's probably not a case of computer images, but drawings. Quite amazing.

all I can recall is one of the accusers excitedly telling a TV interviewer (a paid interview which the former NSW DPP said was an utter disgrace) that the UK cops told her they may fly her to London.

Her eyes blazed with excitement.

I am suspicious of "making images" because when we hear that we think the claims must be true, and yet it would be very easy to plant this evidence, exaggerate ordinary material or include the dodgy adverts for prostitutes that pop up sometimes.
If the first claims are nonsense the rest that follow probably are too.

absolutely shameless and outrageous. These are the 2 the UK cops are relying on- one is clearly a hopeless alcoholic who is still excitedly rabbiting on about her paid trip to the UK. They have now been crafting their tale together for a year.

I'm going to make a prediction here : this case is going to completely collapse but poor Rolf will be destroyed by the so-called 'images'- just as Glitter was. And that is why they charged him over the images.

If you are an alcoholic, drug addict, thief, violent or a raving liar it strengthens your case and is taken as evidence of abuse.

I will be writing an article on this - but what we are seeing with Yewtree is a more than a Witch Hunt.
They are subverting law and testing people as they go on.
It's all a big test, creating precedents as they go.

His conviction involved "old prejudice" though - homosexuality, middle-age, irritating self-aggrandising and a lop-sided smirk.

What "Operation Yewtree" has done so far:
Redfine "paedophilia" not as heterosexual men and fertile jailbait? Done.
Make it acceptable to destroy an untainted man in death and pillage his estate legally? Done.
Allow the police to make absurd and unsubstantiated soundbites and claims to the media? Done.
Commence a Nazi-esque Operation arresting and charging people who know the truth speaking out, stitching them up if they do? Done.
Start by bringing in "others" who have poor media images (due to, would yew believe, the media!) - DLT, Freddie Starr etc . Done.
Once these "dislikeable" individuals are lined up - and there can be none more so than The Silver Stoat, being beaten with his own Shitty Stick - raise the bar.
Begin with the mainstay of the Nations most popular and long-running TV programme after misquoting him in the media? Done.
Move on to someone well respected and well-liked by just about everybody he's ever worked with? Done.
Really make a transparent attempt to stitch up said 'Beloved Entertainer' every which way but loose after he is shown great public support? Done.

Where next for Operation Yewtree?
A dawn raid of Brinsworth House perhaps?

I'll tell you where it won't go - politicians or US-endorsed rock stars with legacies of residual income month on month.
There lies the line drawn in the sand - no way can effect any good cash cows.

These images are the key here.

I seem to remember Pete Townsend, being arrested many years ago, for posessing images, but he he was found not guilty.

Never thought about it before, but as this forum is public do you think this (and DLT ones) should be removed

Knowing some of the moronic people that post on Digital Spy, I'm quite frankly not surprised!

Me thinks the poor old sods been set up - too suspicious, the whole thing seems contrived...

The problem with places like Digital Spy is that they require as much 'traffic' as possible and thus their policy is, ordinarily, encouraging mischief makers & gobshites to spew all sorts of bile. They also have a 'clique' that do this to the detriment of newcomers and 'outsiders' and I avoid it like the plague.
So when the heat is on they close threads and remove posts.

Whereas here is more on a par with Spiked Online - reasoned debate that may be controversial at times but never crosses the line.
