UK Economy : Recovery 'Better Than Forecast' 11 Years, 10 Months ago

A rush of new business last month drove the service sector, which makes up 75% of UK output, to its fastest growth rate for more than six years, according to the Markit/CIPS purchasing managers' index (PMI).
The reading was at its highest since December 2006 - beating economic forecasts.
A separate report by Visa Europe backed up the findings.
Responding to the PMI data, the chief UK economist at Deutsche Bank George Buckley said: "I wouldn't be surprised to see growth double what the Bank of England is expecting for (this) quarter, because they're currently forecasting 0.6%."

" just a small island: no one pays any attention to them"
The Prime Minister says the UK "invented most things worth inventing" in response to Russia's reported dismissal of the country.
Oh, the damage done by that treacherous Silliband - we are very, very lucky to have David on board to "defend" these "small islands".
---
"Britain is an island that has helped to clear the European continent of fascism and was resolute in doing that throughout the Second World War," he said.
"Britain is an island that helped to abolish slavery, that has invented most of the things worth inventing, including every sport currently played around the world, that still today is responsible for art, literature and music that delights the entire world.
"We are very proud of everything we do as a small island - a small island that has the sixth-largest economy, the fourth best-funded military, some of the most effective diplomats, the proudest history, one of the best records for art and literature and contribution to philosophy and world civilisation."
He added: "For the people who live in Northern Ireland, I should say we are not just an island we are a collection of islands. I don't want anyone in Shetland or Orkney to feel left out by this."
Meanwhile Downing Street distanced itself from an offensive comment made by Tory MP Henry Smith in reference to Mr Putin.
The backbencher tweeted that the Russian leader was a "tosser".

May David long save us from the treachery of those who would "sell" us to another country !

The Cameron speeches in St Petersburg were described as 'bizare'....
Some random qoutes:-
- One Direction has conqurered the world
- we have invented most of the sports
- UK invented the internet and 'the world's language'
And this bloke is running the country....
But to have to go back to the past (to justify mediocrity) is desperate, sad and Egyptian.

Fisking Osborne's "recovery" speech
blogs.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/2013/0...rge-osbornes-speech/
‘Our plan for the economy is a plan for living standards’
Reality: "Recent OBR data suggests it will take until 2018 for the average earner to get back to 2008 salary levels: a lost decade. As a result of government policy."
‘We’re turning a corner’.
Reality: " The truth is that this is now the worst recovery in British history. Look at GDP per capita (which the Treasury says is the more valid measure) and one of the words that Ed Balls uses does spring to mind…"
‘Amazingly, even with the evidence we now have, there are still those calling for the government to abandon its economic plan in order to spend and borrow more’.
Reality: "Chief amongst those wanting the UK government to borrow more is the Chancellor of the Exchequer."
