Are we starting to see that inevitable realisation by the general public that people DO lie or make mistakes or inflate stories?

Officer Dribble on Twitter seems almost disappointed that yet another 'celeb' has been found innocent of the charges. Maybe his house of cards, on a trifle base, is now falling down?

I wish now that we can find out who the false accuser was and then get charged for making these false allegations.

I'm going to disagree slightly with JK's view about accusers lying.

The issue in a trial isn't to determine whether the complainant is lying or not. The point is for the state to attempt to prove to an adequate standard that the allegations did happen as alleged.

If the evidence takes the form

Accusation: Oh yes he did.
Rebuttal: Oh no I didn't.

and there is nothing further (as in the Le Vell trial and JK's) then the information on both sides is precisely balanced. Merely repeating the accusation lots and lots of times does not allow the state to prove its veracity.

These cases should not have passed the CPS test of offering a greater than 50% chance of conviction and therefore should not have resulted in a trial.

He also attacks anyone who wants anonymity unless convicted,and his view that everyone who disagrees with his methods is a supporter of child abuse is very dangerous, I think.

According to "The Wright Stuff" this morning, two people are convicted each month for making false rape allegations.
Probably those with mental illnesses are never charged, and children who are manipulated into making claims by the "other parent" either (and most will never be found out) so it is probably the tip of the iceberg.

I hope she is prosecuted. She also shows an astonishing lack of sensitivity by attempting to name the accuser.

What is astonishing is that there were no other false accusers (or genuine accusers, come to that) in the case. Knowing that publicity provokes allegations (we've seen it for 13 years - I was amazed by all the allegations that flooded in after John Leslie was falsely accused and, remember, I could see the actual false allegations in the Matthew Kelly fiasco), I'd have thought Le Vell, being a very big name indeed, would have had dozens of other claims.

I can only assume that he DID have numerous others emerge and that the police/CPS decided they were so clearly false (probably involving "Kevin Webster") that it would seriously damage their prosecution case by illustrating how many loonies come forward under these circumstances. This would be extraordinary, as "similar claims" are usually the ONLY evidence against those accused of historical sex offences.

In my case, there were so many ludicrous claims (most dropped like hot potatoes by the cops)... my favourite was the man who said he was once offered a lift by me and he refused! That made him go all the way to his local cop shop and make a long statement, thirty years later, after seeing loadsapublicity! Probably quite true, but really. Until this kind of thing has happened to you, you would never believe the brain death amongst members of the public.

She think's the jury are wrong they heard all evidence given., doctor found no evidence she even had sex in her life, time scale did not add up as age she said it happened contradicted a lot just like the Bible, Mother said her daughter tried spiritual healing to help her deal with abuse.

Interesting that this mirrors the case almost exactly 30 years ago when another actor from Corrie, Peter Adamson was acquitted for child abuse offences. The difference here was that the time between him being arrested and then going on trial less than 3 months!
