TOPIC: James Burke - welcome back

James Burke - welcome back 11 Years, 9 Months ago
Brilliant to see him back but why on earth did he go away? Great that he's on TV again (he was superb in the 70s)... shows like that were both entertaining and informative... he's fabulous on BBC Brekkie and only 76 today.

That made me giggle...

In his day, JB was like a cross between David Attenborough and Brian Cox, as far as popular science on TV goes, and as already been alluded to in this thread, he seemed to be everywhere, and then... gone. I missed this appearance, but hope he's well, he was a very positive and inspirational figure when I was young.

I loved his science programmes as a kid. A brief scene I recall is him sitting on a Concorde flight eating Emmental cheese. I have no idea what this was in aid of - perhaps BBC budgets allowed for such extravagant scientific links in those days.

I may be wrong, but I remember him being suddenly dropped from being a regular presenter on Tomorrow's World, and him saying he didn't know why he was dropped. Raymond Baxter was dropped shortly afterwards. TW was a great programme and just presented the facts - something TV tends to not do very well these days. (Can we have a serious motoring programme please! Can we have a serious travel programme please! Oh, and can we have a serious music progamme too please!!)).
