Regulars will know (and mostly disagree) that I believe in totally open borders - I am the absolute opposite to the UKIP/right wing Tory approach (close our borders and expel foreigners).

Of course we should have sensible restrictions (criminals) but this is a world now - welcome all races, allow them to work and get benefits, NHS for all etc...

This insanity in the Mediterranean simply reinforces my opinion. For the sake of humanity and our species, open all borders.

Terrorists would have a field day.

Why don't we open the doors to our homes, as well?

Terrorists are the some of the restricted people; I don't think relaxing regulations will allow any more in than get in anyway.

We're vastly over-populated as it is. The health service can't cope with the demand, the transport system is grinding to a halt, the roads are clogged up, and unemployment is growing (minus all the fiddles), and there is a housing shortage. Do we really want to add to this.

So now we fling our borders open... for Chinese! Yellow good; brown bad. Humanity bonkers, if you ask me.

I think it could work, but only if all countries agreed to operate more or less the same way e.g they all had the NHS etc or that instead of having individual countries, with individual governments, the world just because one big 'country', so everyone was free to move anywhere, provided that there was room for them...

You see; I go by my own gut feeling. With the Internet, I could do my "business" (music, films, books) anywhere with broadband access. I love the sunshine so North Africa and Southern Europe are divine for me and I spend many months a year there. I make friends easily so know people everywhere. BUT... I'm not only English but a Londoner (born within the sound of Bow Bells). Given choice, with all its faults, I choose to live in London; always have, always will, Insha'Allah.

I think, after the initial madness, that's how most people would choose to live where they feel most at home. Societies would restructure to cope. Yes, NHS and benefits and others would need far more money in them; I totally believe the influx of Chinese, Moroccans, Tunisians and others would boost our economy by much more. I approve of the multi cultural society (even given the ghastly Muslim attitude towards same sex love - but Christians felt the same way until a few weeks ago).

It would all eventually balance out - and many fewer lives would be lost as a direct result.

But then, I'm an optimist.
