Andrew .. it's a democracy and so Beaker (I had to google him/it) can be a candidate so long as someone nominates him/it and pays the fee.
I read that Winnie the Pooh got elected to president as the Student's Union a few years ago.
And there was the monkey in Hartlepool.

The real hero in elections was Tsar Simeon II of Bulgaria. He was deposed and exiled by the Bulgarian government following a national referendum in 1946 but then came back in 1996 and was elected as Prime Minister in 2001. He is the only monarch in recent history to become a democratically elected head of government. - (info courtesy of Wikipedia.)

btw .. I wouldn't vote for David Cameron either.

Indeed, I am !

I don't understand why we don't have subtitles whenever they show Silliband - I cannot understand anything he says (which is probably a good thing).

I think you mean false democracy doesn't work. Few people even know what 'true' democracy is. And if you DO know what it is, you'll know that it hasn't been attempted, mainly because not enough people have wanted to pay for the education that is its prerequisite. So it's not that it doesn't 'work'. It's that it doesn't exist. It would be refreshing if people talked about populism, rather than democracy, because that's what they usually mean when they talk about democracy. Populism is all about participation. Democracy is all about participating 'properly'. Not many would feel comfortable with that, because relativism is the creed of the age.

Correct Pru - I think Andrew's comment needed a comma after TRUE - but your qualification is accurate. The reason I think democracy doesn't work, whilst agreeimg that TRUE (informed) Democracy has never been tried is that because, even if the people were all to be educated properly, the vast majority would still be influenced by stupid things like image (good hair, good teeth, even smile).

I believe, had my smile been regular, my teeth white, my physical charms greater, I would have been acquitted on all charges at my first trial. Even if the prosecution had managed to find - invent - proof of my non existent guilt.
