In a statement released after the staff meeting, Ineos said: "The company made it clear that rejection of change would result in closure. Regrettably, the union advised union members to reject any form of change.

The dispute at the plant, near Falkirk, began over the treatment of a Unite union official and escalated to the threat of strike action.(*)

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-24631342

(*) This same Union official was at the centre of the dispute when Silliband (Jnr) blamed the (dis)Unite for trying to "fix" one of their officials as the Labour Party candidate for Falkirk.

I wonder why veri-hedda-tas has not voiced an opinion?
He always seems to go quiet when the true face of the loonies is exposed !

Union now caves-in, and will today agree to anything in desperate bid to save jobs.

If only these people had listened to ITK and NOT to their loony Unions (and Ralph Silliband types)!

The unfortunate situation seems to be created by a union trying to wield long gone ideas and power..........modern industry works by discussion and business integration with staff rather than the old style tactics of 'dispute'....don't get me wrong, unions have their place, but when a large company spells out 'change or close' nowadays, there is only 1 winner....so the decision to negotiate and accept some changes and win on others should have been done ages ago.....that would have meant pensions, obviously, but also some early retirements, some volunteer redundancies and some forced redundancies......its just how it is, and I'm suprised the union hasn't understood that

The union hasn't helped their members int his situation, I'd ask for a refund of subs.

The union = the management are always out to get us
The management = the workers are there to do the job we paythem for under our rules

The thrid way of modern industry - don't dispute, talk.....if you don't negotiate. you never know what people are willing to bend on.

Quite right, Mr Reason.

The Unions have never learned from the past - if they feel they have power they will use it. The Unions drove the miners(*) out of work, and it may be same case here.

Most of these workers are on over £1000 per week basic !

They were being asked for a pay freeze (for 18 months) to enable the owners to invest a further £300 million to secure their futures.

The Union has now had to capitulate and give in to everything that the owners were asking for.

Let's hope (for the sake of the people who were foolish enough to give the Union "convenors" power) - that its not too late

(*) and the car workers
and the dockers
and the motor cycle manufacturers
etc etc etc

GRANGEMOUTH TO STAY OPEN AFTER UNION CAPITULATES !

==
The company said the move had followed a "dramatic U-turn" by Unite and its "belated recognition" that the company's survival plan was the only way to ensure Grangemouth's long-term future.

All these workers should QUIT the Union immediately - and STOP listening to / following loonies !

They have had a very lucky escape !

... and so are the loony Union leaders !

Massive salaries ... expenses ... company cars ... what do they care if those they represent lose their jobs ?

It may also mean a "bonus" (from overseas !) for having caused more trouble and disruption?

My dad was in several unions and Burtons was the funniest, they had to G0 Slow and youngsters working there they thought, it was still working too quickly so what they did was walk with a limp, look at the back and play 21 or call the oldest senior member over.

The Union leader at the centre of the Grangemouth closure has resigned - ahead of a disciplinary hearing due tomorrow.

The Labour party still has alot of questions to answer about the Falkirk bye election and the Unite union "signing-up people to Labour and offering to pay their subscriptions" so that it could influence the selection of the candidate for the election (see yesterday's Sunday Times for more details).

Silliband - obviously ! - wants it all swept under the carpet as its highly embarrassing for him and shows who exactly runs the Labour party.
