I think of the poor lady I knew whose daughter was murdered on a beach in Australia 50 years ago in a terrible case that was never solved.
She never spoke to the media once in her entire life. She regarded them- in the 60s and 70s- as pariahs so ghastly they made her physically ill. She abhored the public's vicarious obsession with her daughter's death, as opposed to her close family and friends who shielded her from the hideous public and the media.
She never wished for revenge, just knowledge of why it happened. She prayed for the murderer.
She respected only one police detective who understood- she thought the others incompetent and idiots.
