I am more concerned that parents are forced to pay for their children to receive part of the national curriculum on a compulsory trip.

it was certainly a bizarre claim to make to parents although a trip to "explore Islam" would have been most educational- it's a fascinating religion.

I'm not sure you can conclude that all religion is a "work of fiction".
The Bible for example means Christianity is the most read about subject on the planet and there is more ( written) 'proof' that Jesus existed as there is any character is history.

Despite it's bad name, especially from fraudsters like Dawkins & Hitchens, only around 7% of the world's wars have been fought for religion and even then it was an excuse and like every other war , they were about money and land.
