Wottie's 11 Years, 7 Months ago
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2518016...reate-new-breed.html

She knew what she was doing, dogs can get neutered/spayed on the cheap, the puppies will be a more than a handful for any owner/trainer both dogs are very stubborn, be hard to sell and give away she is just irresponsible stupid owner. Hope she don't get a Staffordshire Bull Terrier for mating then give him away, then the sell puppies for £50 each.

Any intact dog will mount any bitch in heat.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2517635...e-themed-appeal.html

A dog is a huge responsibility no dog should be sold at Christmas, they are not gifts, children get bored once the dog is no longer a puppy, parents can't afford vet bills, de-wormers and flea treatment gets expensive, dog food goes up in price, if the parents work full time and the child is at school who then walks the dog ?

RSPCA, Dog's Trust, Battersea, Blue Cross and PDSA are full of dogs who need a home.

Accident my ar*e! She clearly intends to use the rottweiler as a breeding machine, because it is the dog who is "going to the vet" rather than the bitch.

I disagree about dogs from a shelter being suitable pets for most people though. So many of them are returned or passed on,and the owners unable to cope with a damaged dog that I think it is kinder to leave it to very experienced owners.
Also, (without meaning to) shelters give the impression that dogs are disposable.

Ah, Honey; my favourite ever Alsatian MAX - my Mum got from rescue; the most intelligent, affectionate dog ever; we actually used to have long conversations, which amused my Mum and friends. So I am thoroughly in favour of rescue dogs - yes, many may be beyond redemption but I think you can spot them; most were just abandoned or abused and need love and affection (which I will give to any dog at any time without reservation - I much prefer them as a species to humans).

So do I, and most of ours have been rescued too, but the process of them going through the "rescue" process these days is longer and (in my opinion) more damaging than it used to be and rescue dogs should only go to those who will make them their whole world.
The rest (i would rather they didn't bother at all) would be better planning the right sort of dog for the family, and make sure they will be able to cope.
I am very much in favour of rescuing dogs but I don't think it should be pushed as the normal way to acquire one when in the wrong hands it will create more misery. (some shelters do thorough checks, others sell to anyone)
Two of ours have been "unfit for rehoming" and both became wonderful and gentle pets.

They are lovely smiley dogs. Most in our rescue are staffys.

We have got an Australian kelpie who turned up on the doorstep bleeding. (animals know where the suckers live) and a chihuahua and a "chihuahua-type-thing", two cats, and a hedgehog who sleeps on my bed. (I'm a hedgehog carer, and this one cant be in a sanctuary or free so she just runs around with the hounds)

How you getting on with the Kelpie ? They not the easiest of dogs to own, they do get bored easily. Staffies are superb dogs who need to be firm and show them your in charge. Owners who sell on sites like Gumtree are very good, they most likely to have the dog when it was a puppy, most are well trained, only sell them due to moving or breakup in the relationship.

She was absolutely dreadful when she first came. She had been very well bred and then stolen and used for (over) breeding. She was abandoned when she developed pyometra.
It was a miracle she pulled through, and all through it we had no intention of keeping her, for the reasons you outlined but I hoped to train her enough to be rehomed (she was ferocious and killed everything in sight)
After she savaged the vet she was deemed un-rehomable so i took her home and kept her. It didn't take long to teach her at all. We had a couple of mortifying moments such as when she slipped her lead at a service station and slaughtered several rabbits in full view of picnicking families but she is as gentle as can be these days and even gently carries injured animals to me without hurting them.
She needs a lot of walking and talking playing, but she is a wonderful pet.
She is coming up to "at least" seventeen.
Staffys make fantastic family pets usually. Its a shame some idiots give them a bad name. How old is yours?

You can't blame your dog it's way it's been treated and abused, must of been a ghastly sight for people to see your dog savage the rabbits. My Staff is is coming up to 9 had him for a year now, his very well socialised and excellent with kids. Staffies are slowly in decline due to people not wanting them or can't train them - they are easy to train.

Our shelter is full of them. Of course terriers tend to like a scrap but their bad reputation is undeserved.
It is remarkable how quickly our Gretel stopped killing things. We have a lot of injured or sick animals passing through the house and she is completely safe with all of them. Even rabbits.

Any terriers will scrap, up to owners to keep them on leads. Shame your shelter is full of them sadly all shelters are the same.

Important thing is have they been socialised to kids and puppies.

Here it is... www.freshfieldsrescue.org.uk/animals/liverpool/C25

The people who run it are very dedicated (some say fanatical nutcases) and I'm always happy to help out.
The "problem" is that it is full of dogs who cant be rehomed and so they are there forever. Lovely, except that there is no room for incomers.
They leave unwanted dogs in their homes while they find new owners for them, but a lot are turned away.
The vetting procedure for this one is very thorough, but even so, a lot of cats and dogs are returned.

And this one, who do terrific work saving pitbulls. www.animals-in-need.co.uk/savingbullbreeds.htm

There are a few very large shelters locally but just about anyone can walk in and buy a dog so I wont put the links up.

Are you looking for another one, Andrew? I know someone trying to rehome a beautiful bull mastiff who savages other dogs, (despite experienced owners)which wont be easy.

We made a small donation, the pictures really pull on your heart strings.

www.Pets4homes.co.uk is good site to buy or give dogs away to good homes, owners on there will interview you on the phone and some will come round to visit your home, owners will only give up their dog if you can supply references and vet receipts.

Hope the bull mastiff goes to a nice home, we have friends who come round with there dogs so wouldn't be fair on your friends dog.

Doubt she even needed a guide dog if she saw the attack.

Staffies are not dangerous, 8th popular in the UK, silly owners who don't know how to look after them.

No such thing as a dangerous dog.

Just because she "saw" the attack it doesn't mean her sight is good enough to get around without help.
People can have varying types of blindness. For some it is a matter of not focusing quickly enough, and being able to see at some distances and not others, and others might be ok in dim light but blinded by sunlight etc.

I don't know how they expect dogs to know that it is a guide dog with special laws and that they must avoid it.

Don't think it's no difference from any dog attack, my dog has been in a few scraps due to owners not having leads, wish I sold my story now to the press.

Loyal breeds, just so many have evil owners.
