Watching Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood's Xmas bakes, almost all their recipes contain marzipan. Am I alone in hating marzipan? I peel it away from cakes and icing. Loathe it.

No you aren't alone, Marzipan is disgusting.
I am quite conservative with cakes though, I only tend to go for Victoria Sponge or carrot cake which at least looks 'moist'.
OK PH, next time you, me and Steve have a (probably Russian) cake we'll roll our marzipan off into balls and you can have them whilst Hedda locks us all up. PS you'd be amazed how many views this thread Am I Mad? has had; bet most were very disappointed when finally getting to read it!

I hate it too. I just find it a very weird taste and texture. Also I can't stand custard. If there is custard on the plate, then the whole dessert is contaminated.
With you on custard too Robbie, especially when it (inevitably) gets skin on it. Interesting about the texture of food - and drink; it's one reason why I love Pear Juice, that odd, rough texture.
I like marzipan but I cant bear the icing and I have to peel it off, and I loathe parsnips, especially when they disguise themselves as spuds and ambush me!
