Watching Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood's Xmas bakes, almost all their recipes contain marzipan. Am I alone in hating marzipan? I peel it away from cakes and icing. Loathe it. Enter code here Please note: although no board code and smiley buttons are shown, they are still usable.

No you aren't alone, Marzipan is disgusting.

I am quite conservative with cakes though, I only tend to go for Victoria Sponge or carrot cake which at least looks 'moist'.

OK PH, next time you, me and Steve have a (probably Russian) cake we'll roll our marzipan off into balls and you can have them whilst Hedda locks us all up. I hate it too. I just find it a very weird taste and texture. Also I can't stand custard. If there is custard on the plate, then the whole dessert is contaminated.

With you on custard too Robbie, especially when it (inevitably) gets skin on it. Interesting about the texture of food - and drink; it's one reason why I love Pear Juice, that odd, rough texture.
