It is nonsense to say that a quarter of children are fat.
Anyone who looks at a class of children can see that it is simply not true.
A school nurse I sometimes work with tells me that in her school there are far more underweight children.

Isn't it a bit odd that they used a photo of someone who is probably in her twenties to illustrate a fat ten year old?

Yes, "classed as" but not "actually" obese. The charts have been re-jigged so what was once normal is now called obese.

Of course there are (I think) more extreme cases, because more parents think their child's health is someone else's fault and responsibility. (and they dont give a damn)

To be fair to parents of porky children, it must be difficult to exercise them if they are in nursery/school/childminder's/after school care all day long, and nobody feels like making a good dinner if they have been working all day.

We can understand why because junk food is cheaper and lasts longer.

Consumer letter of the week !

Dear Jetstar...

Do you like riddles? I do, that's why I'm starting this letter with one.

What weighs more than a Suzuki Swift, less than a Hummer and smells like the decaying anus of a deceased homeless man?

No idea?

How about, what measures food portions in kilograms and has the personal hygiene of a French prostitute?

Still nothing?

Right, one more try.

What's fat as f***, stinks like shit and should be forced to purchase two seats on a Jetstar flight?

That's right, it's the man I sat next to on my flight from Perth to Sydney yesterday.

No. Because until fairly recently mothers stayed home with their children. Nursery was rarely full time and was for the child's benefit not the mother's.

We cant break the bond between mother and child, institutionalise them almost from birth and then be surprised when things go badly wrong.

It is. Sometimes (through the church) I have had to help people manage on almost no food money.
The most calories per penny is the value brand biscuits. (for emergencies)

Yes. Very often it was exactly that, but also from unexpected emergencies, large bills, illness, domestic abuse etc.

If these people cannot sort out their own priorities simply propping them up (by bailing them out) will only perpetuate their continued actions.

The lesson that they will have learnt?
Never mind about buying food - someone will be daft enough to give us that.
Now ... Samsung or Nokia ??? Mmm choices !

Exactly. this is why I would show them how to make do with whats they have rather than just giving money. You have to help them to be responsible because its the children that suffer.
From my observations the days of "I will do anything for my kids" are disappearing fast.

I got an Alcatel had it for years, never top it up only use it so people can call me. If people are sanctioned Wonga is the only place to get money. This is what your beloved Tory Party have done to Britain made the poor poorer.

I dont think ITK was meaning people in desperate situations resorting to wonga, (though its best avoided) but people who borrow daft amounts for frivolous things when they cant repay it.
I hear that when you apply for these loans you are encouraged to take out more than you wanted, and the repayments are unrealistic.
Some people do need protecting from themselves.
