For Turing - And For ALL VICTIMS Of Vile Homophobia ! 11 Years, 6 Months ago
There are millions more also deceased Gay VICTIMS of vile Homophobia, and at least 15,000 other men still alive today.

Who, like Turing, were also convicted for no other reason than their being in a same-sex relationship. What about them?

The problem with this pardon is that Alan Turing had sex with a 19 year old when the age of majority was 21. In other words, Alan Turing was convicted of abusing a child.

Now if you want to say that the law was unfair even in Turing's case because it was legal for heterosexual men to have sex with 19 year old women, and thus homosexuals were discriminated against, then we also discriminate unfairly

- on the grounds of profession, when we say that teachers cannot have sex with 17 year olds but all other people can.

- on the grounds of nationality when we say that a British man in France cannot have sex with a 15 year old, but an Italian, for example, can.

Furthermore, homosexuality was criminalized in the same 1885 puritanical Criminal Amendment Act, lobbied for by suffragettes, that raised the age of consent (for girls) from 13 to 16.

So what if Turing had had sex with a 15 year old? What would have stopped him, as it was just as illegal for man to have sex with a 15 year old boy as it was to have sex with a 19 year old boy.

Turing was a genius, but do we expect him to have known that in the year 2013 we would regard one half of that Victorian bill to be 100% wrong, and the other half to be 100% right?
