A man on a mobility scooter has died after falling into the River Thames when trying to pass a flooded pathway.

The 47-year-old was pulled from Osney Lock, west of Oxford, on Saturday evening but died at the scene.

Police said his death was being treated as unexplained.

Supt Christian Bunt, from Thames Valley Police, said the incident highlighted the dangers of using flooded pathways, especially along the River Thames.

He added: "I urge anyone using these areas to take extra caution."

Years ago (ie pre mobility scooters) we didn't have streets full of mid-40s cripples staggering about on crutches ... so what has happened?

People - so idle that they never actually walk anywhere, and when the use of their legs is actually needed, suddenly find they don't work anymore ?

Possibly one of your beloved soldiers, ITK, having lost limbs killing innocent Libyans or Syrians or Afghans on behalf of our dear government.

Possibly .... but I doubt it !

How is it "unexplained"? If someone saw him fall into the water and he was pulled out dead I would think it safe to assume he has drowned accidentally.

Probably unexplained because they can't believe someone would be riding around in a flood !!!!!!!

Far too little information to speculate on why he was there,and shock and horror,about if he actually needed the scooter or not.

ITK must be careful with his anti-pensioner mobility scooter campaign lest Karma sees him end up in one himself.

It was a rarity - something hardly ever seen.

You really don't help these people, hedda, by remaining silent, while they eat themselves to death through lack of exercise !

Remember those terrible blue 3 wheeler mobility cars?

Friends neighbour had one, she kept it in communal doorway she got loads of complaints, council finally moved her to bigger flat where she could of kept it indoors. My late mum was 55 and needed a scooter, different circumstances for different people ITK.
