No surprise there. Funnily enough, I really was shattered 14 years ago when I discovered that police lie, bend the rules, "assist" witness statements and do anything to get a conviction. I really did believe, before, that they search for the truth. Wrong. They just want convictions and preferably high profile ones. "You will be believed" unless of course you're denying something.

For careers, ratings and profit deviously masked as 'protection', for every true victim that they 'save' they create many more. Including mass-deceived millions, including many children losing relatives and friends.
