..... we are still being asked to trust them to do the right thing.

I was reminded of the police - who demand and get - more and more laws.
Does that reduce crime? No.
Does it make anyone safer? No.
Does it increase the possibility of abuse and misuse? Yes !

Let's not forget - the USA would NOT be doing ANY of this now were it not for a certain Edward Snowden.

I was constantly reminded of a UK politician .... can't remember his name now ! .... who used to say things like "Trust me - I'm a pretty straight kind of a guy" (usually just before taking us into an illegal invasion) !
