TOPIC: Syria

Syria 11 Years, 5 Months ago
Can't anyone see the irony? Syrians must choose their own government - as long as it's not Assad.

I really worry about the brains of our species. If Syrians must choose (never wise anyway), how can they NOT be allowed to choose one candidate?

Ah, I'd forgotten the new Century morality in all things; assume guilt unless and until they can prove innocence and "let Syrians choose anyone" means "except anyone we deem inappropriate".

After making a complete mess in an area far from their own backyard it seems Uncle Spam now dictates who has an interest in their own backyard!

We've had this discussion before ITK; you claim to know that not one other Syrian wants Assad; I dare to suggest that some may. And to point out that democracy is meant to hear the voice of ALL the people; not just some and definitely not only those approved by ITK (or William Hague).

To quote Ban Ki Moon - "the goal of the negotiations is to establish by mutual consent a transitional governing body with a full executive powers".

Quite right and that "transitional body" should include representatives from all sides, and not ban figureheads blamed by the MEDIA!

I'm not entirely convinced that ALL the Syrian delegation will actually return home ! I fully expect at least one to claim asylum.

Why not? Huge numbers of Assad's army have deserted - because they don't want to face war crimes trials. He already relies on Hezbollah fighters and Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
