Ah, I'd forgotten the new Century morality in all things; assume guilt unless and until they can prove innocence and "let Syrians choose anyone" means "except anyone we deem inappropriate".
We've had this discussion before ITK; you claim to know that not one other Syrian wants Assad; I dare to suggest that some may. And to point out that democracy is meant to hear the voice of ALL the people; not just some and definitely not only those approved by ITK (or William Hague).

To quote Ban Ki Moon - "the goal of the negotiations is to establish by mutual consent a transitional governing body with a full executive powers".
I'm not entirely convinced that ALL the Syrian delegation will actually return home ! I fully expect at least one to claim asylum.
Why not? Huge numbers of Assad's army have deserted - because they don't want to face war crimes trials. He already relies on Hezbollah fighters and Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
