Appalling sex abuse at North East borstal 30 years ago... 11 Years, 6 Months ago
By a dead man I notice... quite ghastly and three cheers to the media for highlighting it. Mind you, the media seems not to wonder why all this sudden historical abuse is getting discovered. And they dare not hint that it might be possible the claims have been exaggerated or inflated or even, God forbid, invented. Not even unintentionally. I suppose the media knows that memories do not ever change, that media does not encourage or simply provoke delusion. The media knows more than us uninformed individuals. And it is, after all, a good story.

We should encourage compensation to these poor abused old men. A far better use of our tax monies than hospitals, schools, police, benefits...

Let's shut down the NHS, police stations (and the BBC while we're about it) and give our tax monies and licence fees to all the poor, abused elderly who are suddenly remembering they were goosed by a vicar, doctor, foster parent, comedian or prison officer 45 years ago when they were 15.

That makes sense, doesn't it? Thank God we're all so balanced.

Thank you Patt; though let us never forget what a great man (Wilde?) once said "sarcasm is the lowest form of wit".

Nothing like a good old dose of compensation to cure amnesia.

headlines screaming PAEDOPHILE RING but the claimant says he was 17.

what part of the Age of Consent do they not understand ?

should they also be saying PAGE 3 TOPLESS PAEDOPHILE PHOTOS for your garage wall?.

no link to Sir Jimmy Savile OBE yet.

still time though.

Wilde was wrong. Sarcasm is often very funny.

I have never understood the purpose of compensation at all. It is hardly going to put things right is it?

One idea is to make compensation ONLY payable to psychiatrists for treatment of poor, damaged victims. Claims would drop very fast.

Strange how this is in the news now. Neville Husband was convicted back in 2003, and £500,000 in compensation was paid out in 2009. Why has it taken so long for these current claims to come out, since the original case was fairly high profile and surely everyone who had been abused would have come forward at the time.

Isn't it amazing that within a couple of weeks since a BBC documentary about abuse, over 200 people who have never previously mentioned it, have suddenly remembered that they had been abused whilst at Medomsley Detention Centre (by two people who are conveniently dead):

Here are some curious reports concerning one of the men central to the trial of Neville Husband, cook at Medomsley detention centre. It involves apparently finding sexually explicit photos of a city council leader in the street, photos reportedly stolen in a burglary, handing them in to the council and the ensuing consequences.
